Canonical partition function for the hydrogen atom in curved space
نویسنده
چکیده
The electronic partition function for the hydrogen atom was recently derived by integration over the Coulomb propagator. A much simpler derivation is given here, based on Schrfdinger's exact solution for a hydrogenic atom in a Riemannian space of positive curvature. The energy spectrum is entirely discrete, including states which correspond to the ionized atom. The curvature in Riemannian space is shown to be equivalent to a finite volume in Euclidean space.

Canonical thermostatics of ideal gas in the frame work of generalized uncertainty principle
The statistical consequences of minimal length supposition are investigated for a canonical ensemble of ideal gas. These effects are encoded in the so-called Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) of the second order. In the frame work of the considered GUP scenario, a unique partition function is obtained by using of two different methods of quantum and classical approaches. It should be noti...
متن کاملCanonical partition function for the hydrogen atom via the Coulomb propagator
The electronic partition function for the hydrogen atom is derived by integration over the recently-available Coulomb propagator. This provides a resolution to an old paradox in statistical mechanics: the apparent divergence of the hydrogen partition function. Electronic excitation does not contribute significantly to the standard-state partition function until temperatures of the order of 5000...
متن کاملNumerical study of the radial Schrodinger Equation for Hydrogen atom using Legendre wavelet
This paper deals with the Legendre wavelet (LW) collocation method for the numerical solution of the radial Schrodinger equation for hydrogen atom. Energy eigenvalues for the hydrogen bound system is derived -13.6 eV. Numerical results of the ground state modes of wave function for the hydrogen R(r) or the electron probability density function, has been presented. The numerical results ha...
متن کاملFlat-Spacetime Covariant Gravity, its Quantization and Solar Application
General relativity (GR) is a covariant theory of gravity on curved spacetime (general covariance) which, however, denies a covariant Hamiltonian. Most alternative works of gravity on flat spacetime present non-covariant Lagrangians which treat time t as a parameter entirely distinct from the spatial coordinates. A covariant formulation would require that space and time be considered as entirely...
متن کاملSolution of Coulomb Path Integral in Momentum Space
The path integral for a point particle in a Coulomb potential is solved in momentum space. The solution permits us to answer for the first time an old question of quantum mechanics in curved spaces raised in 1957 by DeWitt: The Hamiltonian of a particle in a curved space must not contain an additional term proportional to the curvature scalar R, since this would change the level spacings in the...
